Digital Port

2008

The tourist’s journey, William Mitchell explains, is increasingly dependent upon the economy of presence. The brief asked for tourist accommodation to be placed in Shelly Bay, Wellington. Using Mitchell as a generator, this design explores the possibilities of travel when it becomes too costly (financially, environmentally and emotionally). The proposed cabins are to assist people leaving Wellington, virtually. They are centred around a mixed use server room and use parametric modelling to achieve various levels of connection with the virtual and real world.
