Return to Nz ArchitectureLen Lye Gallery
2006
Asked to design a new gallery for Len Lye's work. The design explores the relationship between the culture of viewing art and the architecture necessary to support it. It serves as a critique of Jake and Dino Chapman's opinion of galleries as "spaces for bourgeois people to pay their dues to culture," by rejecting the conventional barriers to art. In doing so, it plays off the values of the Chapman brothers against the values of Len Lye.
